Governor Ted Strickland appointed a new student member to the Shawnee State University Board of Trustees, pre-med junior Mallory Saltsman, of Wellston. Her two-year term will begin July 1, 2009. "Having students on our Board of Trustees helps ensure that all decisions are made with the student perspective represented," SSU President Rita Rice Morris said.

I came to school at SSU to pursue a sports writing career, and did so at a great time. The most common question I've heard since taking over the Chronicle in 2007 has been "why do you cover sports so much?" Yes, I am a sports writer, but the answer to this has nothing to do with my background.

As we plan for the future, the call is to develop infrastructure to enrich our academic standing and our student life. Killing the library café-strangling the coffee baby in the cradle, so to speak-would be a giant step in the wrong direction.
