On Saturday, March 7th, Shawnee State University (SSU) is being invaded by comedians for the 3rd Annual March Comedy Shoot Out. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the event starts at 7:00 pm in the Flohr Lecture Hall located in the Clark Memorial Library. This is the first round of competition and the winner will move on to the finals in the coming weeks and compete for the title and a cash prize.
Fourteen Geology students will visit the Smoky Mountains over Spring Break and earn college credit. The trip will take place Fri. March 20 through Mon. March 23, with stops near Knoxville, Tenn., another near Eastern Tennessee University (ETSU), and in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park itself.

Shawnee students, faculty as well as members of the community packed into the Kahl Theatre for Shawnee's third annual presentation of the play.
This is the fifth consecutive year for the "Go Red" campaign at SSU. The Women's Center is partnering with the American Heart Association to raise awareness of heart disease throughout the month of February. "Our main goals with this campaign are to educate people on steps they can take to enjoy good heart health and also to raise money to donate to the American Heart Association for research," Women's Center representative Sarah Smith Richards said.
The Department of English and Humanities is sponsoring the new Shawnee State University Student Writing Awards, a competition where students can express themselves through the written word. There are three categories: Best Poem, Best Short Fiction (story), and Best Creative Nonfiction (essay).

An acclaimed Broadway musical comedy, "The Drowsy Chaperone," is coming to Shawnee State University's Vern Riffe Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 1. The play won the most 2006 Tony Awards of any musical on Broadway including Best Book, Original Score, Costume Design and Scenic Design.
Lines of students and faculty formed Feb. 18 in the Bear's Den from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to taste the unique foods being offered for lunch for annual International Meal Day. "I ate at the Bear's Den last semester, but I do not recall eating any international foods that were served," Freshman Josh Kelley said.
